REX Player
A hardware-accelerated video player with broad format support.
REX Player is a long-running Android video player built around MediaCodec, so playback is handled by the hardware decoder rather than a software transcoder. It opens the file formats the stock gallery app refuses.

About REX Player
REX Player exists because Android's stock player is a thin, cautious wrapper around MediaPlayer. REX goes straight to MediaCodec, which means it can decode with the hardware pipeline instead of falling back to a software codec, and it will happily open containers the system gallery app simply declines to play.
It handles external subtitle files in every format you are likely to have, lets you pick audio tracks and playback speed, and keeps playing in the background or in picture-in-picture while you do something else. Gestures cover seek, brightness and volume.
It is a closed-source commercial app distributed outside the Play Store. That is the one part of this store that is not free software.
